Want a tape in your hand? You wanna hold some fucking music and then listen to it?! Soon my friends, this dream of yours and ours will come to fruition. Announcing some upcoming releases for ya! There are no official release dates but by my word everyone involved is tripping over their dicks trying to get these tapes made and distributed and spinning on your decks.

The Conjugal Visits

Straight outta Colorado Springs, CO, this four-headed garage punk baby tears it up. Together for only 2 years and have already recorded 2 EPs, and a self released 7” on the way, all soon to be released by us soon. Sounds pretty raw and we here at the Cold Slice Compound can’t wait to rip ‘em to compressed crunchy cassette. Lotsa talk about these dudes and we’re psyched to work with them.

Pet Snake (2011) — While other bands can only aim to seem rough around the edges, the Conjugal Visits really are. Here the Colorado Springs quartet takes the squandered rawness of garage rock and makes it new again. “No Ghosts” is cartoonish and gnarly, cut with bloodcurdling screams and a ton of crash and ride. The only thing that makes this record better is that it was written and recorded at the band’s home, Wiener Demon Castle. — Dave Herrera

Flesh Panthers

This local garage/punk rock three piece from Chicago has just recorded their new album “Quick and Dirty” ( mixed and mastered by Le Fonz of Perfect Kiss) to be released on Cold Slice Cassettes. If you’re around you should go see them at Pancho’s (2200 N. California) on Jan. 29th. Stay tuned for the big party when this thing comes out. We will, of course, keep you posted.

Quick and Dirty (2012) — Aggressively trashy wine-soaked cuts about narcotics, rape, love and murder describe the rough mixes I heard, that will no doubt sound as they should on the cassette medium.

We have really been meaning to update this blog daily, only things have gotten pretty busy here at the Cold Slice Headquarters in the past two weeks. We have been constantly sorting through emails and reviewing submissions and finally have something to show for it. We now have THREE upcoming releases we would like to announce to you in a moment, but first check out this… we would like to introduce you to the two newest workhorses at the Cold Slice sweatshop. I don’t mean to brag, I don’t mean to boast, but we just picked up these sweet little babies for real cheap at the thrift store; a 1979 Technics M-7. Nothin’ too fancy but we really love the look of the analog needle meters, a pretty handsome cassette deck if ya ask me. We had to pick ‘er up at only 2 bucks. Also found an Onkyo Integra Ta-2047 that wouldn’t play. Took it home and cleaned it, now its working like a dream. Both look mint! Also on the way…….

We found a Nakamichi Dragon, a Nakamichi 550 portable cassette recorder, and a Recordex duplicator on the cheap through CL. It’s all coming together boys and girls.

How to send your demo, album, or submission:

Have your samples and project info available on a site such as bandcamp, myspace, soundcloud, facebook, reverb nation, etc.

Found this and hope these guys get this documentary made. Looks awesome, who knew Zimbabwe was cassette crazy? Next time I have an extra five spot laying around it’s going to them.

As it happens we are currently in the process of putting out our first cassette release and will be humbly accepting anything anyone has to spare to make it happen and get the good music out there. CASSETTES FOR ALL! And maybe it’s the time of year or something but it always makes me think of that heartwarming Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie where everyone is broke and the little girl says something like, “Every time you buy a cassette, a demon laughs and screams.”

So our kickstarter will be up soon. We’ll be in touch.

Heard about this from a friend and had to read it for myself. Kinda old news but apparently the Oxford English Dictionary has removed cassette tapes from their new edition. What kind of mickey mouse operation are these old uninformed codgers running? Good article though from the huff post. Next time I’m in Dallas I’m gonna hit up that Eight Track Museum. The curator, Bucks Burnett, sounds like a real stand up dude.

[Continued…] So, much to my chagrin, I didn’t get to see the first band and the second band didn’t really grab me and rub me down the way I like. Nobunny however came on and rocked that shit like a sleaze bucket typhoon. Balls all hanging out of his underwear like a total scumbag, gotta respect that. You don’t see dudes in just their underwear this time of year. Did a Hunx and His Punx cover of You Don’t Like Rock n’ Roll. Everyone joined together in a girly mosh pit, grinding up on that shit, chanting the words “”. His bunny mask looked decrepid and rotten like he had just skinned a bunny five months ago and had worn it on his face ever since. Sounded surly and fiery, like an inflated balloon someone let fly around the room for forty minutes. Definitely gonna come around when this sonuvawiseacre plays these parts again.

If you’ve never seen Bloodshot Bill you should probably do some traveling. After being banned from playing the US for five years he’s painting all the towns whatever the fuck he feels like painting them. I had been listening to his record Thunder and Lightning and couldn’t wrap my brain around how he did all that by himself. The most exciting, full sounding one man band playing Chicago that night, put those guys down at the Jackson stop to shame. Guaranteed to give any other one man band a run for their money. Vocally, he was dynamic and showed his entire range, from squeals to screams to crooning to hiccuping to motorcycle engine and all while keeping his hair looking above average in some other dimension on top of his head. His Link Wray cover of 5-10-15-20 (Can Your Monkey Do The Dog) was the meanest and the tightest of all that is mean or tight, beating his guitar into submission, makng it another drum set. But, of course, he was just a warmup for Tandoori Knights. Pressure cooking is what I’d say they did, cooking with pressure. I’d like to take a moment and thank the sound guy at Bottom Lounge that night, well done. Tandoori Knights are certainly good times, categorically, fun for everyone. Swirling guitars, some awesome use of reverb, perfect solos, amazing energy. It’s like the stars aligned and Shiva or Ganesha or Vishnu smiled on a rainy Chicago, tucked us in.

11.26.2011 Just Getting There

So it was a dark and rainy night. It gets dark around four PM in Chicago and the rain was as cold as a witches tit in a brass bra. Not that cold actually, but it wasn’t comfortable. Something was in the air for sure because the night before I was riding my bike home from work and some jerkstore fuckface, totally on purpose, dumped a cup of their tobacco juice on my left shoulder. There’s haters out there my friends and I’m personally one of them when random dumb shit isn’t happening to me. But not to worry, I flew into a resonable rage and spit on their vehicle and gave them a gander of one the crustiest ass cracks they’ve ever seen for real. I was gamey as fuck from waking up late all spacey from the partying hard the night before and all the riding to work and working and dealing with tourists and slangin hot pies I KNOW that ass crack had to look sick as fuck, even from a distance.

So as I said it was dark and rainy and the night after that shit and me and my boy Patrick were going to go to a show. The Tandoori Knights/ Bloodshot Bill/ Nobunny/ Radar Eyes and Outerminds at the bottom louge. A pretty swanky joint with some very respectable pinball games, in decent condition. I recommend Championship Pub and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. But first we needed pizza. So we go to the dopest, closest pizza joint between where we live and the hot dancin’ partners we were meeting up; Dante’s. Like I says, something was in the air because this young kid tried to steal the tip jar right off the counter. Somebody yelled to stop him so I stop watching Pat play Donkey Kong on the sweet coin-op they have at Dante’s and reach the door just in time to help smash this little dirt bag thief in the door. Funny part is that he doesn’t get the seven dollars in tips and he actually comes back for his hoodie and hat that we snatched of his back. The NOIVE! We point to his shit that floating in a puddle which he slaps on. He says some shit like, “Yeah, that’s right I’m sixteen doing this shit.” Says fuck you and walks out trying to start another fight.

So me and my boy Pat finally get outta there with a pizza that was decedant and rank smelling as fuck. It’s called The Inferno. A thick layer of juicy sausage slathered with hot giardinera and dripping wet with cheese — hard to eat without being genuinely happy, smirking. We meet up with these coupla stone cold foxes and wolf down our lions share, trying to give them our story between mouthfulls, giving off the rankinest of meat smells from our heavy breathing. Got to this show and saw some crazy goin-ons!
